Join us for the 2024 Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon at Lake Lurleen State Park on Saturday, May 11. Children ages 5-16 are invited to swim, bike, and run to help promote healthy living and raise funds for Secret Meals For Hungry Children. We encourage children of all athletic abilities to participate. Race distances are very beginner-friendly. Helmets are required and flotation devices and training wheels are allowed. All participants will be awarded with medals. Awards to top three girls and boys in each age group will also be awarded. Registration opens on February 23! What does my child need to wear?
Participants will Swim, Bike, and Run (in that order). To save on time during the race, it is recommended that athletes wear their swim gear during the bike and run portions. Athletes must have on a shirt when participating in the bike and run portion of the race. Athletes may wear swim shoes or tennis shoes for the race, but we recommend using baby powder in the shoes rather than trying to put socks on after swimming. Please arrive in swim gear as this will be the first portion of the race! You can leave all clothing items/towels on your child’s bike in the bike transition area.
What items do I need to bring on race day?
Please remember to bring your child’s bike, helmet, any flotation devices needed for the swim portion, a towel, goggles if needed, shoes, clothing to put over wet bathing suit, dry clothes for after the race
What time should I arrive on Race Day?
Event check in is from 8:00-8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. We will close the event area off to all vehicles at 8:30 a.m. so please plan to have your bikes dropped off before 8:30 a.m. to avoid having to walk the bikes over from the main entrance.
Where can we park for the event?
All attendees and participants must park in the parking lot near the main entrance of Lake Lurleen and walk over to the beach area. We will have dropoff available until 8:30 a.m. for bikes and any family members who may not be able to walk far distances. WE WILL CLOSE THE ROAD TO THE BEACH AREA AT 8:30 A.M. so please plan to have all bikes dropped of by then.
Can I help my child prepare in between transitions?
We do not allow parents or guardians in the transition areas during the race. Volunteers will be onsite to help participants prepare for their next transition.
Is there any cost to attend this event?
Your only cost for this event is the initial registration of $35. All attendees will have free entrance to Lake Lurleen on the day of the event. It is possible that we will have a few vendors onsite that may have goods for sale if you want to bring cash for that just in case.
